El_Salvador - About a hundred kilometers before the capital, I leave the highway and head north to Lago Suchitlán, where Suchitoto is located. Just after noon, I enter the town. A fair is being set up in the central square by the church. I see a rickety-looking Ferris wheel and three other attractions. The hotel is within walking distance of the central square. I am surprised that behind the relatively simple entrance lies a spacious resort with a beautiful view of the lake. From my spacious and neat room, I also have a view of Lago Suchitlán. I leave the inviting pool for now. I walk back to the central square to quickly eat something and withdraw dollars for the coming days. I have to hurry to have enough time left for the waterfall. Just outside Suchitoto lies the Cascada los Tercios. It turns out to be unsafe to walk to the waterfall alone. Therefore, an escort can be requested at the police station. The first attempt fails due to the language barrier. When the driver goes along, it works. Two police officers get on the bus and escort me to the waterfall. They only speak Spanish. From a few words, I understand that I can first visit the viewpoint at the lake and then the waterfall. At the viewpoint, I cautiously ask if I may take a photo of them. This is no problem. Especially the younger officer enjoys the outing. With one officer at the front and one at the rear, I walk to the waterfall. The water splashes over hexagonal basalt blocks here. It is remarkable how these shapes can form in the stones.
