Israel - At the end of the Via Dolorosa, I arrive at the Western Wall. The Western Wall lies against the western side of the Temple Mount. Here, the Jews lament the destruction of their temple on the mount. It is the only visible remaining wall after the destruction of the Jewish temple by the Roman occupiers in 70 AD. Orthodox Jews still regard this place as the holiest site. Upon entering, I am given a kippah, as Jewish tradition requires men to cover their heads. As I approach the wall, I see various Orthodox Jews praying against it. I enter Wilson’s Arch at the side, an old covered area on the northern side of the Western Wall. Here as well, people are deeply engaged in prayer. It is a remarkable experience and a meaningful conclusion to my visit to Jerusalem.
