Israel - After lunch, I continue my journey through Jerusalem and walk to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. This impressive church is built on the site where Jesus was nailed to the cross on the hill of Golgotha. The nearby tomb is also part of this church today. At the site of the crucifixion, you can touch the stone where the cross is believed to have stood. I have to crouch deeply to crawl into a small opening. I reach through a circular opening to touch the stone. The stone where Jesus is said to have been anointed is also a major pilgrimage site. I see several pilgrims kissing the stone. In front of the tomb where Jesus is believed to have been buried and to have risen after three days, there is a long queue of waiting visitors. Progress is very slow. It would take too much time for me to stand in line, so I leave the church again.
