Lebanon - Old Sidon is a city on the Mediterranean Sea in Lebanon with a rich history dating back to antiquity. Sidon is one of the oldest cities in the world and played an important role in the Phoenician civilization. It was an important trade center and was known for its trade in purple dye. Among the remains are ancient city walls, temples, and the impressive Castle of Sidon. The Castle of Sidon, also known as the Sea Castle, is a medieval fortress dating from the Crusader period. It offers a beautiful view of the sea and surroundings and now houses a museum with archaeological finds from the region. Khan el-Franj is a historic caravanserai (inn) built in the 17th century. It served as a resting place for traders and travelers and features characteristic architecture. The old city of Sidon has narrow alleys with traditional markets and souks where visitors can wander among local merchants offering a variety of products, from spices to handmade crafts.
