Lebanon - The center of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is known for its lively atmosphere, historic charm, and impressive architecture. Old buildings with a rich history stand side by side with modern skyscrapers, reflecting Beirut’s tumultuous past. On August 4, 2020, about 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded in a storage facility at the Beirut port. The explosion caused a massive shockwave that swept through the city, causing significant damage to buildings, homes, and infrastructure across a large part of Beirut. One of the central squares is Place de l'Etoile (Star Square). It is surrounded by historic buildings. Nejmeh Square is another important square in the center, home to the Lebanese Parliament. The square is surrounded by stately buildings. The impressive Mohammad Al-Amin Mosque, with its blue domes and Ottoman architecture, is a distinctive monument in downtown Beirut. It provides a striking contrast to the surrounding buildings. Although not strictly in the city center, the Corniche—a beautiful seaside promenade along the Mediterranean—is an important part of city life. It offers a stunning view of the sea and is a popular spot for relaxation.
