Senegal - The Sine-Saloum Delta lies in the southwest of Senegal. It is a nature reserve covering 180,000 hectares. Located north of The Gambia and about 100 kilometers from the Senegalese capital, Dakar, the area includes the Saloum Delta National Park. This vast region is filled with mangrove forests, lagoons, islands, and rivers. A highlight for visitors is taking a boat trip along the rivers to spot pelicans and flamingos. You can also enjoy views of picturesque fishing villages from the water. There are iconic baobab trees, beautiful sandy beaches, and a wide range of wildlife, including many monkeys. Overnight stays can be arranged in Palmarin, which has several beautiful hotels. At the luxurious Lodge des Collines de Niassam, you can even sleep in a baobab treehouse. Deeper into the mangroves, you can also stay in an eco-lodge operated by a community-based organization called ‘Keur Bamboung’, a collaboration between several local villages.
