Venezuela - Angel Falls is an impressive waterfall in Venezuela. It is the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall, with a height of 979 meters. The waterfall plunges over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in Canaima National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the base of the falls, the water flows into the Kerep River. The waterfall, "Angel Falls," is named after Jimmie Angel, an American aviator who was the first to fly over the falls. The common Spanish name, "Salto Ángel," is derived from his surname. In 2009, President Hugo Chávez announced his intention to rename it with the original indigenous Pemon name: "Kerepakupai vena," meaning "waterfall of the deepest place," arguing that the country’s most famous landmark should have an indigenous name. He added that the waterfall existed long before Angel ever saw it. To date, this renaming has not been implemented. Angel Falls is one of Venezuela’s main tourist attractions, but a trip to the falls is complicated. The falls are located in a remote jungle, and a flight from Puerto Ordaz or Ciudad Bolívar is necessary to reach Canaima Camp, the starting point for boat trips to the base of the falls. Boat trips generally take place from June to December, when the rivers are deep enough for the wooden boats.
