Kenya - We drive the truck back into Samburu Reserve. In the early morning light, the park looks completely different again. Impalas, antelopes, and gazelles graze on the open plains. We also spot a few elephants. One is standing right on the road — we must wait for it to move before passing. At the edge of the bushes near the river, we see a giraffe. It stands still at a safe distance, giving us a good look. At the spot where the lions were yesterday, it’s quiet now. Not a single bone or leftover remains. What could they have done with it? Just past the thicket, we see a lion walking. It disappears into the bushes. The lions appear to be on the other side today, resting in the shade. Along the river, several birds sit in the trees. Some birds of prey perch high in the canopy. In the lower branches, more colorful birds are visible — a bee-eater and the lilac-breasted roller, Kenya’s national bird. Near a tree, we spot two jeeps. Is something there? It turns out a cheetah is lying in the shade. What a sight. The animal glances around, but doesn’t mind the attention. It seems more focused on its surroundings. Cheetahs are the fastest animals in Africa. They can run up to 120 km/h to catch their prey.
