Pakistan - The Deosai Plateau, also known as Deosai National Park, is one of Pakistan’s most remarkable natural wonders. Located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, at the boundary of the Himalayas and the Karakoram range, it is the second-highest plateau in the world, with an average altitude of around 4,114 meters above sea level. Although the roads to reach it are rough, the journey is rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views on Earth. It is known for its vast grasslands, biodiversity, and stunning landscapes. Deosai, which means "the land of giants" in the local language, is covered by a thick layer of snow during the winter months and becomes inaccessible. However, in spring and summer, it transforms into a colorful sea of wildflowers, with thousands of blossoms and butterflies dancing in the air. This bloom not only attracts tourists but also makes the plateau a key area for scientists and nature lovers. Deosai is a crucial habitat for several rare animal species. It is especially known as the home of the endangered Himalayan brown bear. Besides the bear, Deosai also shelters animals like the Siberian ibex, red fox, Himalayan wolf, and many bird species, including the majestic Lammergeier and Golden Eagle. One of the main attractions in Deosai is Sheosar Lake, considered one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. The crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding mountains. The lake is a popular stop for visitors exploring the park. Because of its unique biodiversity and vulnerability, the area has been protected as a national park since 1993.
