Costa_Rica - In the afternoon, we walk into the capital city. Opposite our hotel lies the Teatro Nacional. This national theater is one of the finest old buildings in San José. The building dates from 1891. The theater was originally financed by an extra levy on coffee exports. San José is a modern capital with wide shopping streets. The city has few historic buildings. Many older buildings were lost in one of the many earthquakes. Fortunately, the Cathedral of San José survived the natural disaster. In the square in front of the Cathedral, dozens of parakeets fly around. These creatures are very noticeable. Finally, we walk to the Correo Central, the main post office. This building also dates from the 1850s. From the outside, the building is beautiful; inside, unfortunately, it has been heavily modernized and is not very special. It starts to drizzle lightly. In the hotel bar, we order a beer.
