Cuba - The coffee plantations of Vinales

Cuba - We drive along the wide highway toward Pinar del Río. There are hardly any cars on the highway. However, many hitchhikers stand along the roadside, and cyclists, horse-drawn carts, and ox carts use the highway. The wide highway is not completely free of potholes. The bus driver looks for the best asphalt to drive on. Near Les Terasses, we drive to an orchid nursery. Here, we get a tour of the nature garden with orchids and other plant species. At the nearby resort, we can order drinks at the pool bar. The service is extremely slow. After this stop, we continue to the village of Les Terasses. The village is built on terraces for the plantations around the lake. The houses are also built in layers. The bus drives a meaningless loop through the village. Without stopping, we cross the same bridge again. A little further on, we visit a coffee plantation. The plantation is no longer in use but gives an idea of how coffee was processed. From here, we also have a fantastic view of the valley near Les Terasses. Unfortunately, it is cloudy. It would have been much nicer with sunshine. Lunch is at a restaurant by the lake. On the veranda overlooking the lake, chicken is served (what else?). It is already half past two when we drive back toward the highway and continue our way to Pinar del Río. There, we turn toward Viñales. The village of Viñales has many charming, characteristic houses.
