Lesotho - While the teacher explains about the school, I take a photo of the children. They crowd around to look at the photo afterwards. At the end of the tour, the children come into the classroom and sing a song for us. They probably sing this for other groups as well, maybe every day. Yet there is no indication of this, and it seems spontaneous to me. Berry leads us further to the museum. Here we see various utensils, different plants and cacti, and learn how a traditional hut is built. From the museum, we have a beautiful view over the valley. At the end of the tour, we visit the village of Malealea. We visit residents who make handicrafts and get to taste homemade beer. When we return, we have lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, we go for a walk to the Bushmen’s rock paintings, which they made here more than a thousand years ago. Ra, our guide, leads us to the gorge. Although the walk is supposed to be easy, it involves quite a bit of climbing over rocks and the path sometimes descends steeply. On the other hand, it is a beautiful walk. We visit three caves where rock paintings are found. The third cave is on the other side of the creek. From there, we must climb steeply uphill. Without pulling yourself up on tree roots, it’s impossible. We return the same way, walking and climbing back.
