Iceland - We had planned to get a drink in Ólafsvík, but we find no cafés or restaurants open. We walk through the town: the modern church, the sports field, and the harbor. There isn’t much more to see. Fewer than 1,000 people live here. Iceland’s population is 360,000, with about 200,000 in the Reykjavik area. The rest of the country is sparsely populated. We decide to drive on to Kirkjufell mountain. This iconic peak frequently appears in images of Iceland and has been featured in several films. The combination with the Kirkjufellfoss waterfall completes the postcard scene. Unfortunately, the volcano is shrouded in mist, but the view is still beautiful. We are now on the northern side of the peninsula, heading back. From here, we return to Borgarnes.

The Jokulsarlon glacier lake
