France - The old district of Nice, known as Vieux Nice, forms the historic and lively heart of the city. As soon as you step into this neighborhood, it feels as if you have entered another time. Narrow, winding streets are lined with tall, colorful facades in warm shades of ochre, red, and yellow. The buildings are closely packed, keeping the streets shaded and cool, even on hot summer days. Vieux Nice exudes a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere, with influences from both France and Italy. This is not surprising, as Nice was part of the Duchy of Savoy for a long time. In the streets, you hear a mix of languages, smell the aroma of freshly baked bread and herbs, and see small shops selling local specialties. At markets such as the Cours Saleya, olives, flowers, cheeses, and herbs are displayed, while cafés and restaurants fill their terraces with visitors and locals. Central to the old town are several baroque churches and squares. The Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate, with its richly decorated interior, serves as an important religious and cultural center. Small squares like Place Rossetti provide space to pause and observe daily life. The district is lively both day and night. During the day, it is a hub of commerce, culture, and sightseeing; in the evening, Vieux Nice transforms into a vibrant nightlife area with cozy bistros, wine bars, and restaurants. Despite the crowds, the old district has maintained its authentic character. Vieux Nice is thus not only a tourist attraction but above all a place where history, culture, and everyday life come together naturally.
