Lithuania - We drive for about an hour to the village of Trakai. As we drive through the main street, the brightly colored wooden houses catch the eye. You would expect wooden houses to suffer greatly in the cold winters. However, Trakai is mainly famous for the Water Castle. Just at the end of the village, I can already see the castle on the island between Lake Galvė and Lake Luka. The castle was built in 1321 and played an important role in the then capital of Lithuania, Trakai. Although the castle has been considerably damaged over the centuries, it has been fully restored. Unfortunately, it is quite clear which parts are newly rebuilt and which belong to the original castle. When I walk over the wooden bridge into the castle, I am pleased to notice that the old atmosphere of the past has been preserved.
