Armenia - The Sanahin and Haghpat monasteries are located in northern Armenia, in the Lori region, forming one of the most impressive religious and architectural complexes in the country. Both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites dating from the 10th and 11th centuries, representing the height of Armenian medieval art, architecture, and religious culture. They are set amidst green mountainous landscapes overlooking the Debed River. Sanahin Monastery, founded in the 10th century, was a center of religion and learning. The complex consists of several churches, including the oldest, the Katoghike Church, and smaller chapels symbolizing the spread of Christianity in Armenia. The grounds are dotted with numerous chachkars, intricately decorated Armenian cross-stones with geometric patterns, floral motifs, and religious symbols.
