Switzerland - From the hotel, we can walk to the city center. The weather is still beautiful as we reach the banks of the Reuss River at the Chapel Bridge. This old wooden covered bridge is the oldest connection between the two parts of the city. The covered wooden bridge, dating from 1365, was part of the defensive works surrounding the old city of Lucerne. The Water Tower, which is part of the bridge, dates back to 1300. The bridge has been restored several times, most recently after a fire in 1993 destroyed two-thirds of it. The bridge was restored to its original state, but many historical paintings under the bridge’s roof were permanently lost. The fire started on a moored boat, and since then, docking at the bridge has been prohibited. We walk across the 200-meter-long bridge. On the other side of the river lies the old town, with narrow streets and decorated houses shaping the streetscape.
