Spain - Cádiz is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe and is located on a narrow peninsula on the Atlantic coast of southern Spain. The city was founded around 1100 BC by the Phoenicians and grew into an important trading and port city thanks to its strategic location. Over the centuries, Cádiz was influenced by Romans, Moors, and Spaniards, which is clearly visible in its architecture and culture. The historic centre consists of narrow streets, hidden squares, and elegant buildings with white façades and colourful balconies. The city has a relaxed atmosphere where history and daily life blend seamlessly. Because Cádiz is almost entirely surrounded by the sea, the presence of water is felt everywhere. One of its most famous landmarks is the impressive Cádiz Cathedral, with its striking golden dome overlooking the ocean. Construction of the cathedral took more than a century, resulting in a mix of architectural styles—from Baroque to Neoclassical—within a single building. From the tower, visitors enjoy a beautiful view over the city and the Atlantic coast. The old watchtowers are also characteristic of Cádiz. During the period of trade with the Americas, wealthy merchants used these towers to observe ships entering the harbour. The most famous is the Torre Tavira, where visitors can experience a panoramic view of the city through a camera obscura. Cádiz also played an important role in Spanish history. During the Napoleonic Wars, the city remained one of the few free Spanish territories, and in 1812 the first Spanish Constitution was drafted here.
