Spain - Santiago de Compostela, along with Jerusalem and Rome, is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage destinations in the world. The pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela (the Way of St. James) leads to the tomb of the apostle James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Most pilgrims follow the French route, which starts in Roncesvalles or Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and continues through northern Spain to Santiago, the capital of Galicia. This route is 900 km long. There are also pilgrims who begin the journey in their own country, for example from the Netherlands. The current path of the Camino Francés originated in the first half of the 11th century, although it is believed the route is much older. In the city of Santiago de Compostela, there are 46 churches, 114 church bells, and 288 altars. Some unique religious relics are preserved here, including two 14th-century angels.
